So I set out to make some adorable little cookie favors for Logan to share with all of his friends and this is what I came up with. I am praying, hoping, and wishing that they all end up in Maryland unbroken and ready for the party!
Below is a little sneak peak as to how I start this whole process, as you will see, I outline the character in black...and yes, this is all by hand, no kopycake (which I would LOVE to own one day...maybe Dec. 25, 2010?). It takes a bit of time, but the end result is soooo worth it!
and now for some bananas...for some reason yellow does not photograph very well, but I will post them anyhow. I coated them in yellow sanding sugar, you know because sugar cookies and royal icing do not have enough sugar in them!
Happy Baking...Happier Eating!
These are so very, very cute! I just don't see how you can make these with such perfection...little works of art. He will be so thrilled.(-:
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, these are adorable! What is your secret to making such perfectly decorated cookies? I've tried and failed miserably! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you both! My secret is I love to do it, having lots of time and practice! Heather let me know if you need any help, I'd love to!
ReplyDeleteHi Linzy! Do you use royal icing? I either seem to get the royal icing too thick or too runny.
ReplyDeleteHeather, yes I do use royal icing, just can't do it without :) Keys for making your royal icing the best consistency...make sure you whip it for 10 mins and once you do that, add water a few drops at a time until you can run a knife through your frosting and the line you draw disappears in 5-10 seconds. Any less=too runny, any more=too thick. Also if you need a good recipe let me know, that always helps!
ReplyDeleteWow Linzy - you have outdone yourself! The detail on these is incredible! At first glance I thought you used the pre-decorated wafer papers. I know first hand that it is very difficult to get that detailed using Royal Icing. And NO KOPYKAKE???!!...I'm impressed! :o)
ReplyDeleteWow! These cookies are incredible! I can't believe you can do that with frosting...amazing!
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE a KopyKake, too! A girl can dream! ;)
ReplyDeleteThese cookies are so cute! Love the details on the monkeys...and the bananas are adorable as well!
My little guy loves My Gym too!!! These cookies are darling!!! Looks just like the My Gym monkey. How long do you let the white on the circles dry before beginning the outline of the design? Overnight? Amazing!
ReplyDeleteHi Amalia,
ReplyDeleteYep, I let them dry for about 12-16 hours, I am too nervous to do it before that as I don't want them to bleed and ruin the whole look.
I would love your recipe on how you made these cookies.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to the recipe I use for my cookies...I use the one found on Sweetopias site: http://sweetopia.net/2009/12/sugar-cookie-recipe/
ReplyDeleteHowever I use 6 cups of flour to give the cookies more durability, otherwise they are a bit fragile. Hope this helps Janelle!
